I have had the pleasure of knowing the Boxler family for a long time. Abby and I became really good friends my junior year of high school, Abby's sophomore year. We'd known of each other even before that when we went to middle school together but it wasn't until we had a class together in high school that things just clicked! (Insert old, innocent, pre-digital picture of us here! ).
This past year, Abby has truly inspired me. As devastating as it has been to lose her only sibling and her best friend, she has managed to accept it and in turn, find ways to keep MaDee alive. Abby & her husband, Jeff, welcomed their first baby on November 2, 2010. When Cy was born, Jeff held a picture up of MaDee the entire labor time so MaDee would be present in the room. They wanted MaDee to be there to see her nephew being born. They decorated Cy's nursery with black dog memorabilia to represent MaDee's dog, Mo, because Mo meant so much to MaDee and it was just another way that MaDee could still be present in Cy's life. 
And now to continue MaDee's legacy there has been a non-profit foundation started in her memory. Abby is the Secretary of this foundation and would love nothing more than to one day make this foundation her full-time job. You can find out all about The MaDee Project by clicking here. ReplyDeleteThat was really sweet. I'm definitly going to check out the foundation. That's so amazing that Abby can be a part of keeping her sister alive...I can not imagine how that must feel.
