To Be Continued

Last night was the first episode of the Top 24 selections on American Idol.  We only saw a few decisions before the "To Be Continued" message came across the screen.  I'm looking forward to tonight when we will find out the fate for the remainining contestants.

As for last night's results...I found myself sobbing, once again, while watching Jennifer Lopez tell Chris Medina his heartbreaking news, "And it honestly breaks my heart to say this but you did not make it into the top 24."

He's an amazing example of what unconditional love is.  If you don't watch the show or don't know why, Chris has a heart-breaking story.  Chris' fiancé Juliana suffered severe brain damage in a car crash shortly before their wedding in 2009.  Now confined to a wheelchair she cannot live independently, and needs round the clock care from the devoted Medina, along with her mother.

I realize a story like his doesn't mean that he should move on in the competition.  It's a singing competition.  I get that.  But I honestly thought he was a great singer.  He had some rough moments but didn't they all?  I thought his last solo performace was beautiful as he sang "Fix You" by Coldplay.  But I also realize there is a lot of amazing talent this year and it just wasn't his time.  It surely didn't make the goodbye any easier though.

On a brighter note, I read this in the NY Post and it made me smile:

Chris Medina may be out of "American Idol" this week, but he has collected a sizeable sum for his wheelchair-bound fiancée. Fans stepped up and donated a handicapped van, a home furnace and more than $29,000 to girlfriend Juliana Ramos, according to a local news Web site in the Chicago suburb where Medina lives. In the three weeks since Medina told the story of how he became his fiancée's caregiver after a car accident left her with severe brain damage, contributions have been pouring in, it said.

It just reminds me that there are still great people out there who are willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

As for who made it through last night that I am excited about...Paul McDonald!

LOVE his voice.  Can't wait to see who else makes it into the top 24 and how this season unfolds!  Until then...
