The ultimate debate: thumb sucking vs. pacifier, which is better? It's pretty much all opinions. I really don't think either is better than the other. Everyone has their own theory. To each its own is my theory.
We have a thumb sucker. The best part about it (I think) is that Stella can self-soothe. Oh...and it's absolutely adorable to see her do it. :) I'm aware that it will not be near as adorable when she's older, but we'll worry about that when the time comes.
Anyway, I was looking at some old pictures of the first few weeks that Stella was home and I noticed a reoccurance. Everytime I put her in a onesie where the hands were cupped, she was always getting her thumb out.
Should that have been my first sign that she was going to be a thumb sucker? Now looking back, it seems as though it may have been.
So on November 12th as Stella was swinging in her swing, I found her like this (see below). This was the official first day I had found her with her thumb in her mouth.
And from that point on, it's been this:
Right now it's pretty much a sleepy thing. Whenever she gets sleepy, she sticks her thumb in her mouth. The other good thing is as soon as she actually does fall asleep, she takes it out or it falls out. I'll keep you updated as she grows up and let you know if it ever becomes a major problem! In 3 to 4 years I might be writing the post on, "How We Got Stella to Kick the Thumb!" I hope not though. ;)
