Hokie Love, Mims Love

Every time I start to climb the mountain, just before I reach the Christiansburg/Blacksburg exit sign on Interstate 81, I just smile.  There is something about being in Blacksburg that makes me so happy.  It's really hard to explain, but it just does.  Maybe everyone feels this way when they go back to their college town?  I don't know.  All I know is how I feel and it's an amazing feeling and I don't think that will ever change. My Dad always told me to enjoy my college years because they would go by fast, but that it would be 4 of the best years of my life.  And to this day, I 100% agree.

HAPPINESS!
This past weekend we spent our time back in Black!  Ryan had agreed to lay some hardwood floors for a friend.  We also got in touch with Ryan's best friend, Weston, and his wife, Elizabeth, who live in Blacksburg.  (Ryan was the best man in their wedding.)  They were going to be around so we were able to see them and stay at their beautiful home!  I love it when things just fall into place, even when you plan it only a week ahead of time.  That's when you know it's a trip you are supposed to take.

Every time I visit Hokieland I feel like I must do all the things that I love or once loved while there.  The wonderful thing about this was Elizabeth was so open to doing whatever I felt like doing and asked me first off, "So what do you want to do tomorrow?"  (Let me mention both Elizabeth & Weston are VT grads, too!)  Since Ryan was working and Weston had another obligation I had the whole Saturday to spend with Mrs. Mims. :)  And every time I hang with her, I feel like she has been my best friend for years.  Even though I only met her probably 5 years ago when she started dating Weston.  She is such a sweet, genuine, southern belle.  I often think that it only makes sense that Ryan and Weston would pick wives that get along so easily.  They are best friends and therefore why wouldn't they pick girls that could easily feel like they were best friends as well, no matter how long they have known each other?  It's all so....natural.  There is nothing better than that.

So I asked E-beth while we were out Friday night if she liked Sub Station and her response was, "I LOVE Sub Station."  Of course she did.  Why would I think otherwise since I loved it, too?!  So Saturday we spent the day walking downtown, getting iced coffee at Starbucks, visiting 2 bookstores, and then heading to Sub Station for lunch.  From there we checked on the progress Ryan was making and then we headed to the pool in the Village - Phase 1.  Laying by the pool it felt like we weren't too old yet and we still belonged.  It was hard for me to believe that I had been out of college for 6 years.  So these kids weren't even Freshman when I was graduating?  Ahhhhhh.  When did this happen?!  When did I grow up?!  Because I surely didn't feel that much older while laying out at the pool with all the other college kids.  Some times I think it's fun just to pretend! :)

To top off the night Ry, myself and E had dinner at Poor Billy's and then sat around and told stories over a bottle of wine.  The weekend was just perfect.  Just what we needed.  Just the right amount of time.  Just the perfect hospitality. Just the perfect companions.

Another weekend where we fell more in love with the Mims...as if we didn't love them enough already.

With the Mims @ VT football game - Fall 2010
Oh...and I fell even more in love with Hokieland...and I thought there was no way I could be any more in love than I already was.

So blessed.  Once again I am reassured.
