10 years ago tomorrow, on New Year's Eve, I lost my beloved Granny, Betty Jarrels. My parents got "The Help" for Christmas so we watched it over the weekend. The part where Aibileen tells Mae Mobley, "You is kind. You is smart. You is important."...in many ways reminds me of my Granny. She wasn't our maid, but so many of the things Aibileen did, reminded me of Granny. She made each of her 9 grandchildren feel important. None of us ever felt any less loved than the others. She took great care of Granddad (and everyone that stepped foot into her home) and she cooked the best meals this side of Augusta County. :) Even the advice Aibileen gives Skeeter for the cleaning advice column, Granny would've known so many of those little "home remedies."
So here we are. 10 years. I can't believe she has been away from us that long. There really isn't a day that goes by that she isn't missed. But as always, I don't like to focus on what she has missed the past 10 years. I'm just thankful I had 18 cherished years with her. Love you, Granny.
