God bless my Mom.
Last week I had the great idea of finding past birthday pictures and doing a post. I headed to my parents house assuming I would find a couple pictures here and there in my scrapbooks. Boy was I wrong. My Mom had every single birthday documented in my scrapbook until I was 17 and graduated high school. Now that is impressive! See, I told you my Mom was the best. :)
I always have said that birthdays weren't a real big deal in our house and I swear they weren't. Although the fact that she has a picture from every birthday party makes me think otherwise. I just don't remember it being a huge celebration. But I guess it just wasn't always a celebration on the day, but we always had a family birthday gathering some time around the actual date. And as I got older I had a few friend parties, but that was rare.
So, thanks to my Mom, check out my past 29 birthday celebrations...
2 - How cute is my brother, Abe? And that girl beside me would be none other than Tara (Shreckhise). I know she would be so glad I put this picture out there on the world wide web. :)
3 - I thought this one was funny b/c my cake was a pound cake?! What 3 year old likes pound cake?! I don't think I got to make the decision on that one, clearly.
4 - Batting cages for my 4th birthday. My parents really wanted me not to be a girly girl. :)
6 - I love that my Granny, one of the most wonderful ladies to ever grace this Earth, is in this pic. And my cousin, Katie! I definitely see some Ella in that pretty little face.
7 - This was my first ever "friend" party. But of course my best friend was my cousin, Betsy, who is right beside me. Even though she lived in another county, she still came to all of my parties and got to know all of the Augusta County kids. :) She's been through every birthday with me!
8 - I figured out that my cousin, Andy (in the green), was 20 in this picture. I'm sure spending a weekend night at an 8 year old birthday party was exactly his idea of a fun night. :)
9 - Every summer my Granny's sister & her husband would come in to visit from Missouri. Luckily for me, it was always in June right around my birthday. She made amazing cakes so I have several pictures from my birthdays with her cakes. This one was one of them.
10 - Also every summer the Weyers Cave Lawn Party would fall around my birthday. That was a gift in itself. They have since moved it up, but I remember my 10th birthday was a celebration after the lawn party and parade. Man, what a perfect birthday that was!
13 - As we got older, it got harder to find a time where everyone could make a birthday celebration. So then we started to combine my birthday party and my brother Ben's, even though his birthday was May 19.
16 - In my scrapbook Mom had no pictures from my 16th birthday, but she did write on the entire page, "16th Birthday! Sorry Moz...no car" I thought that was pretty funny that she documented that. I won't mention that both my brothers got cars on their 16th birthdays. (Ok, so I did mention it. Whatever! Haha!)
Once we turned 17 and graduated high school, we also graduated birthday parties. But of course I still found ways to celebrate, mainly with friends.
18 - This picture was actually from my senior beach week, however, I turned 18 right after the trip so we celebrated anyway.
21 - I stayed and lived in Blacksburg the summer before my senior year. That was such a fun, FUN summer! I got to celebrate turning 21 in one of my favorite towns.
22 - Ryan arranged a surprise birthday party at the Clocktower. That was fun because I really was clueless.
23 - I got to ring in 23 at the Pullman in Staunton with lots of close friends.
25 - I got married in April of this year so celebrating 25 was done with a small party at our new house. That was fun!
26 - My 26th birthday I was a bridesmaid in my cousin, Katie's, wedding. I love sharing my special day with such a wonderful couple!
27 - One of my best friend's growing up got married June 19 so the day after I got to be with her and all of my best high school girlfriends on my birthday. Since we now live between home, Northern VA, Richmond and Chesapeake, this was the perfect gift.
28 - I spent my 28th celebrating at Jalisco's with some wonderful girlfriends!
And then there was my 29th birthday last year. Can you believe I don't have a picture from anytime around my 29th birthday?! Whoops! I guess the whole pregnant thing really did throw me off!
30 - Now I sit here, 30 years old. Actually officially 30 years old at 2:07 pm. After writing this post the past couple of nights, it just solidifies my many blessings. I'm such a sap anyway, but to really reflect back on my past 30 years...wow, waterworks! How does one become so fortunate? I'm not sure, but I do know one thing, I will never, ever take it for granted. Because if ever a bad day or a down moment, I can surely come back to this post. Thank you to each and every one of the special people in my life. You know who you are and I hope you know how very important you are to me and how very thankful I am that you are in my life.
Here's to the next 30!
